He held this position for 13 years until November 2000 when he replaced David Johnston and Anne Fulwood as the solo weeknight presenter. A little known fact is that Mitchell recorded vocals on a Beatles cover track "Baby, You're a Rich Man" from the 1991 album ''Company of Strangers''. This album featured Daryl Braithwaite, Simon Hussey, Jef Scott and James Reyne and was released in 1992 on Columbia Records.
